Rochia de hartie

de Mihaela Cimpeanu,
15 noiembrie 2011

prezentarea "Urban Paper Dress" 2010

Would You Wear A Paper Dress?

Make it a statement, make it a derision, paper dresses have been around for some time now. I came across a beige paper dress and, curious to see if this ever had a certain outfit value, I found an entire paper dress history. So here it goes, shortly:

Ever since the 60s, the paper dresses are making their way into a smart wardrobe. First made by the Scott Paper Company in 1966 and costing just one dollar, the very first marketed paper dress was an advertising tool. The surprise was that the company received 500,000 orders for that shapeless dress in less than a year.

Cupcake Dress Vs. Paper Dress

I was thinking about that amazing Up project? How hard can it be? And while I was looking around the interwebs for something interesting to bring you, I came across a most interesting dress. Then it hit me: how hard can it be to wear a cupcake dress? How about a paper dress?

We’ve seen a wedding cake dress before, it wouldn’t be the first one but from what I get, people love a quirky challenge. Especially if it tastes good! And Katherine Kallinis and Sophie LaMontagne’s Georgetown Cupcakes cupcake wedding dress looks like torn from a fairy tale! And I bet it also tastes like a fairy tale too! But if you could, which one would you choose? cupcake or paper? (click through for more!)

Violise Lunn danish fashion

Violise Lunn danish fashion designer is making her one of a kind pieces of clothing in her studio in Copenhagen. But alongside creating wearable items she has another obsession: unwearable items.

But these aren’t unwearable for the same reasons haute couture clothing is. The reason is the material: these dresses are made of paper.

The Paper Challenge on Project Runway

by pleatfarmer on September 20, 2009

I was pretty stoked about the ‘Paper Challenge’ during last week’s Project Runway in which the designers were asked to create a look using newspapers as fabric.
There are definitely some pleats and origami influences amongst the predominantly ‘decoupage‘-d garments. I like the fun factor in Shirin‘s signature scalloping paper dress. Ra’mon‘s paper separates incorporates origami folds, and pleating details can be seen on Logan‘s paper cocktail dress. I also like the voluminous collars and sleeves on Irina‘s trench coat which hold zillions of scrunched-up paper – a painstaking feat in itself – and her dress won the judges’ praises that night!
